Student Leadership

"A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don't necessarily want to go, but ought to be."

Pupil leadership is something we really believe in at Thakeham Primary School. Put simply, involving the pupils in the running of the school not only empowers our students but also provides for a vital communication link between them and the adults that teach them. Their voice is the one that matters most.

Beyond that, ensuring we have a confident body of pupil leaders supports with the following:

1] Giving our pupils access to role models;

2] Providing for another way to motivate and inspire pupils;

3] Providing for another way to encourage our young people to work towards a common goal;

4] Providing for another way to encourage our pupils to think critically, ask questions and build behaviours that will support them in the adult word.

Our Leaders can be seen across the school. You will find them in the following roles:

- School Council (meets weekly with Mrs Hopkins)

- Green Force

- Book Worms

- Thakeham Reporters

- Digital Leaders

- Sports and Play Leaders

- House Captains

We also run a mentoring programme whereby Year 6 pupils are given an EYFS Buddy to support when our reception children start in September. We call this our Buddy Programme.
